Potter Park Zoo hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for our upcoming Animal Health Facility yesterday–marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in our commitment to animal care and welfare.
The new Animal Health Facility is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. Located toward the entrance of the zoo, this facility will offer guests a closer look at the fantastic work performed by our dedicated veterinary team through viewing windows of the treatment, surgery, and laboratory rooms.
Equipped with cutting-edge technology and resources, our new Animal Health Facility will exceed current AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) standards and represents a leap forward in animal care and education. This upgrade will empower our veterinary team to continue to provide the highest level of care to our animal residents, ensuring their health and well-being.
The facility will also serve as an educational hub offering opportunities for students at the zoo and guests a closer look at veterinary procedures and animal care practices. It will improve the ability of the zoo to continue to participate in zoo and wildlife research projects. These research projects help improve the welfare and veterinary care in the wild.
Community Impact
At Potter Park Zoo, we are more than just a zoo; we are a vital part of the community. By enhancing our capabilities, we can further our mission of inspiring conservation of animals and the natural world. This project underscores our commitment to creating a brighter future for wildlife and nurturing a deeper connection between our community and animals.
We understand that our guests’ experience is paramount. Rest assured this project will not disrupt your regular zoo visits. Our operations will continue as usual, and we will make every effort to ensure that your visit remains enjoyable and memorable.
