Become a Zoo Teen at Potter Park Zoo

Do you love the zoo? Are you a teen looking for something to do this summer? Then the Zoo Teen program at Potter Park Zoo might be just what you are looking for!

Zoo Teens is a summer volunteer opportunity for teens ages 14-18. There are two different programs; Teen Volunteers and Junior Zookeepers. Zoo Teens get to experience the zoo in ways that most people never do, giving them a great opportunity to explore some of the many career pathways available at a zoo!

Teen Volunteers have the opportunity to assist with our Zookambi summer camp, and help in the animal contact areas like the farmyard, pony rides, and Wings from Down Under exhibit. Junior Zookeepers have the additional opportunity to work directly with animal care staff mentors in the daily care of the zoo animals. It’s a great opportunity for young animal lovers to discover if a zoo or animal career is right for them. Plus, think of all the great stories you’ll have to share!

It’s not too late to apply for this exciting volunteer program!

Teen Volunteer applicants must be at least 14 years old by April 1 and must include a letter of recommendation from a teacher with the application which can be found here.

In addition to the application and letter of recommendation, Junior Zookeeper applicants must have successfully completed at least one year in the Teen Volunteer program and write an essay on how being a Junior Zookeeper would fit into their future goals.

Completed applications must be postmarked or hand delivered no later than April 15 to Potter Park Zoo Attn: Zoo Teen Program 1301 S Pennsylvania Ave, Lansing, MI 48912.

Due to the high volume of interested teens applying for a limited number of program openings, all applications must be complete, submitted with a letter of recommendation and essay if applicable, and be postmarked no later than April 15, 2018 to be considered.
