Starting Monday, June 23, the entrance to Potter Park Zoo on S. Pennsylvania Ave will have a detour for guests. The northbound lanes of Pennsylvania Ave will be closed at Mt Hope (both lanes).
The normal entrance lane will be closed and all traffic will enter through the “exit” lane, which will be widened to accommodate two-way traffic. Incoming traffic will then cross over to the entrance lane ahead of the parking booth and proceed as normal. Barricades and signage will be placed to direct traffic.
When exiting the zoo to S. Pennsylvania Ave, outgoing traffic will be right-turn only.
This work is necessary for continued water main improvements. No active construction work will be happening inside of the park or zoo past the zoo entrance that will impact the guest experience and we do not plan to have any animals off exhibit for this project.
This detour is expected to last for a few weeks. We will update our website and all social media pages throughout the process.
Below is a video from a driver’s point of view, showing visitors how to navigate the entrance.
