It’s Time to Name the Cubs!

It is time to name our red panda cubs and we’d like your help! Potter Park Zoo keepers selected three sets of names and supporters can vote on these names by offering a $5 donation. Please vote today by clicking the links below, or stop at the zoo and cast your vote in the Zoovenier Gift Shop during Wonderland of Lights!

The cubs, a male and a female, were born June 2, 2016 to first time mother Maliha. They are active and healthy and can be seen in the new red panda exhibit built following a generous donation from Jeff and David Williams of Williams AutoWorld. The cubs share this exhibit with their mother and father Rupert Jr.

Red panda are an endangered species native to Asia. Maliha, from Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo and Rupert Jr., from the Minnesota Zoo, were transferred to Potter Park Zoo to fulfill a breeding recommendation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan. Dedicated zoo staff carefully planned and prepared for this successful birth.
