Before You Visit
A little planning goes a long way toward a great day at the zoo. Before arriving, please be sure to:
- Review your confirmation for accuracy
- Assign student and chaperone groups in advance
- Dress for the weather, as most exhibits are outdoors
- Review behavior expectations with students prior to arrival
We recommend one chaperone for every ten students.
Arrival and Check-In
Arriving by Bus
Please use the designated bus unloading zone. One adult should exit the bus to check in at Admissions while students remain on board. Bus drivers are admitted free with a valid school or company-issued ID.
Arriving by Car
If arriving by car, please park and gather your group near the main entrance. One adult should check in at Admissions once all participants have arrived. Parking can be purchased online in advance or paid for on-site with exact cash.
Restrooms are available outside the zoo near Admissions and inside the zoo near the AniMALL Gift Shop.
Payment Information
To receive the group rate, all participants must arrive together and complete payment in a single transaction. Individuals paying separately will be charged regular admission rates. Final pricing is based on the headcount at arrival.
Lunch and Picnic Areas
Outside food is welcome at Potter Park Zoo. Picnic tables and designated green spaces are available throughout the zoo. Pavilion reservations are available and are a great option for group lunches or gathering space.
Please note that seating at Savanna Grill and Dippin’ Dots is reserved for guests purchasing food from those locations.
Group lunches can also be pre-ordered in advance. For menu options and pricing, please contact the zoo in advance to build a package that works for your group.
Behavior Expectations
For the safety of students, staff, animals, and other guests, we ask all groups to follow these guidelines during their visit:
- Students must remain with their chaperone at all times
- Walk at all times and stay on designated pathways
- Do not tap on glass, yell, or throw objects
- Do not feed animals
- Respect all zoo staff, guests, and animals
Groups that are unable to follow these expectations may be asked to leave the zoo.
Accessibility and Sensory Inclusion
Potter Park Zoo is proud to be Sensory Inclusive through KultureCity. Sensory bags, quiet areas, and headphone zones are available to support guests with sensory needs. A Quiet Room and Nursing Room are also available in the Discovery Center.
Our goal is to ensure all guests feel welcome and comfortable during their visit.
