Teen Keeper Application Deadline Coming Up Soon

Do you love the zoo?  Are you a teen looking for something to do this summer?  Then the Teen Keeper program at Potter Park Zoo might be just what you are looking for!

The Teen Keeper program is a summer volunteer experience for teens ages 14-18.  Teen Keepers get to experience the zoo in ways that most people never do.  This year, there are two programs available. Teen Zoo Volunteers assist with our Zookambi summer camp and help in the animal contact areas like the farmyard, pony rides, and Wings from Down Under exhibit.  Those teens who have already spent a year in the Teen Keeper program may apply for the Junior Zookeeper program.  Junior Zookeepers have the opportunity to job shadow zoo keepers and help take care of the animals, as well as help with Zookambi and the animal contact areas.  It’s a great opportunity for young animal lovers to discover if a zoo career is right for them. Plus, think of all the great stories you’ll have to share!

It’s not too late to apply for this exciting volunteer program! Applicants must be at least 14 years old by April 1 and a letter of recommendation from a teacher is required in addition to the application which can be found here.  Applicants to the Junior Zookeeper program are also required to submit an essay and participate in an interview.  Completed applications must be postmarked or hand delivered no later than April 1 to Potter Park Zoo, Attn: Teen Keeper Program, 1301 S Pennsylvania Ave., Lansing, MI 48912.
