SUMMARY:Session 3: FrogWatch USA Training at Potter Park Zoo
DESCRIPTION:Become a FrogWatch Citizen Scientist! \n \nPotter Park Zoo is inviting Michigan residents to become volunteer citizen scientists and join the local chapter of FrogWatch USA. The program teaches volunteers how to identify frogs and toads by their breeding calls and help to gather data that supports a national network. This is a great program for adults and children alike and a great spring time activity for families\, friends\, individuals and groups to get outdoors. \nYou do not have to be a frog or toad expert to be a FrogWatch USA volunteer! All you need is: \n\nAn interest in frogs and toads;\nAttend one training session and join the local FrogWatch USA chapter\nA commitment to follow the standardized protocol to monitor a wetland site over multiple evenings throughout the breeding season (February – August)\n\n  \nFrogWatch training classes for 2019 will be offered in the Safari Room at Potter Park Zoo on the following dates:\n  \nSession 3: April 7 at 1 p.m.  – Register Here \n  \nAdditional dates and times for the same training: \n\nMarch 31 at 10:00 a.m. \nApril 7 at 1 p.m.​\n\n  \nPlease don’t hesitate to reach out to ppzfrogwatch@ingham.org  with questions or for more information on the program. ​ \n

DESCRIPTION:Come join our zoo staff and volunteers as we explore conservation and the natural world as a part of the MSU Science Festival Nights at the Museum series. This event is for all ages and admission is free!  \nLots of hands-on activities will allow you to:\n– view the microscopic world as a scientist\n– try your hand at a simulated veterinary lab\n– learn how to be an animal chef with our zookeepers\n– test your skill in the skull matching game\n– discover some amazing things about bats\n– learn how to be a conservation champion at Party for the Planet\n– have an up-close encounter with our live ambassador animals \n— learn how zookeepers use trail cams to get sneak peeks at our zoo residents\n– and so much more! \nSelected exhibits will be open for our guests to explore\, too. SUMMARY:April FALCONERS: Party for the Planet
DESCRIPTION:FALCONERS is designed to allow children or adults of all ages with special needs and unique challenges (such as autism or developmental disabilities) and their whole family to have an enriching educational experience in a safe and welcoming environment. Safe and welcoming environment with sensory friendly activities. There will be one sensory friendly event in Lansing\, Michigan per month throughout 2019.\n\n\n \n\n\nFALCONERS “Party for the Planet”\n\n\nApril 27: 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM \n\n\n \n\n\n“Party for the Planet” is Potter Park Zoo’s official Earth Day celebration\, and we’ll be focusing on how we all can help protect the earth and animals that live here! We will be putting on a special Party for the Planet just for FALCONERS families. Activity stations will be set-up throughout the zoo and participants can visit them at their own pace. The zoo will open one hour early (at 8:00 AM) just for FALCONERS families. Activities will continue until 11:00 AM\, but families may stay and enjoy the zoo for as long as they wish. Light snacks (and coffee for parents!) will be served.\n\n\n \n\n\nWe are planning to have most of the activities outside\, so please dress for the weather. In the case of inclement weather\, we will move as many activities inside as possible. DESCRIPTION:Come join the party! From 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm we will be hosting a combined celebration for Earth Day\, Endangered Species Day and World Oceans Day. This year’s theme is Spring into Action. Explore conservation issues with hands-on activities\, information and demonstrations around the zoo. What can you do to help the planet? \nParticipate in a tree planting event at the zoo! We will be looking for volunteers to help plant trees from 1-3 p.m. Registration for volunteers is below. \nExperience the wonder of wildlife in action as our Potter Park Zoo animals break into paper-mache creations custom made for us by Haslett’s Murphy Elementary fifth graders from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. \n“Party for the Planet” is included in regular admission price on Sunday\, April 28\, 2019. Come on out and celebrate with us! \n  \nRegister for Volunteer Tree Planting!  \nWant to help us plant trees? We are partnering with Releaf Michigan and the DNR Urban and Community Forestry program to plant 20 trees around the zoo. We’re looking for volunteers of all ages to help us plant over 15 young native trees throughout the zoo! The plantings will begin at noon with light refreshments available after the event for volunteers. \nAll volunteers for the tree planting must pre-register and are welcome to stay after to enjoy the Zoo and the Party for the Planet activities. \nVolunteers will be contacted a week prior to the event with instructions for entering the zoo. Please provide your email during registration.
