SUMMARY:Public Conservation Talk: Michigan Birds & Bees
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday March 20th at 6:00 p.m. in the Safari Room at Potter Park Zoo for an engaging discussion about “Birds and Bees”. Birds and bees are essential pollinators in our environment and they need our help! Come learn how you can help these amazing creatures! We will have two guest speakers\, Cathie Wood will be speaking about honey bees and a staff member from Burke Lake Banding Station will be speaking about their migratory bird research.\nOur “Bee” Speaker\nCathie Wood is a retired teacher turned beekeeper. She started beekeeping in April 2017 and retired from teaching in July 2017! Cathie started with two colonies of beehives and currently has nine hives with plans to expand the apiary to 12 hives for 2019. She has colonies in two locations; at her home in Bath Township near Rose Lake Wildlife State Game Area and on Britton Road in Shiawassee County. Her small business is called Vermillion Creek Honey Company and she sells raw honey as well as natural skin care products. The skin care products use honey and/or beeswax from the hives. She sells her products at the Bath Township Farmers Market\, Eastern Ingham Farmers Market and from her home. You can also follow her on Instagram and Facebook!\n \nBird speaker TBD\n \nPublic is welcome! Admission is free\, donations will go towards Potter Park Zoo’s Conservation Fund. Keep an eye out for more Guest Speakers!
